The newly developed runway at Quetta International Airport has been awarded the prestigious Asia Pacific Engineering Excellence Award by the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) during a special ceremony held in Islamabad
This recognition highlights the efforts of the Pakistan Airports Authority and the consultancy teams for their exceptional planning, engineering expertise, and strict adherence to safety standards.
As per officials, the runway was constructed at an estimated cost of PKR 5 billion without disrupting ongoing airport operations an accomplishment that drew appreciation from the regional engineering community.
The upgraded runway at Quetta Airport is now considered among the longest and most durable in the Asia Pacific region, significantly improving the airport’s ability to accommodate larger aircraft and increasing flight traffic.
The first aircraft to land on the new runway was PIA flight PK-3250 from Islamabad on May 31, 2023 marking a major milestone in the airport’s history.
This award places Quetta Airport among the leading infrastructure developments in the region and showcases Pakistan’s advancing capabilities in modern aviation infrastructure.
